Writers’ Block Zine: Light @ Concept Film Night
Attendees at Concept Film Night were invited by James Harris, to write/draw/sketch their thoughts on ‘Light’ as part of the evening last week. Writers’ Block Zine is an anthology of creativity springing from the Writers’ Block project run by Laura Degnan. The small-press magazine will showcase the work of local talents and is being compiled and edited by James Harris. Inspiration for the Zine came partly from MIMA’s current exhibition ‘A certain distance, endless light’ from which the theme ‘Light’ was taken.
Post-it notes were given out at the event and people were encouraged to just let their creative juices flow onto the paper,. Mima themselves have been very encouraging, and have agreed to promote the ‘zine when it is published. And the final, and greatest, inspiration was the wellspring of untapped creative talent in Teesside.
Submissions are being solicited via the Writers’ Block Facebook page, and people are given the chance to contribute at local events in Teesside such as Concept Film Night, inviting people to respond to the theme of “Light” in any way they choose. The collection so far includes poems, short stories, photographs, illustrations, haikus, jokes and quotes, and the quality of the work sent in has been stunning. Look out for Laura or James at gigs, gatherings and networking meetings bearing paper and sharpies.
