Artists required for Zetland Mural
Artist for Zetland Mural
Tuned In! 2 Creative Links is an extended schools creative project for young people living in Redcar and Cleveland managed by the Arts Development Team. Through the Tuned in! 2 Creative Links programme we aim to provide young people with creative, fun and inspirational experiences, which embed cultural activity and lifelong learning.
Tuned In! 2 Creative Links were approached by the Friends of Zetland Park, Redcar to see if we could help them develop a project which would lead to the decorating of a new fence in Zetland Park. We are therefore looking to commission an artist to work with children and young people from four schools in Redcar and Cleveland to produce a design that can then be translated into the final artwork for the fence.
The fence needs to be finished before Sunday 18th July so that it can be launched at our young people’s festival, Tuned In! @ SHINE 2010.
The fence is in two sections. The Ladies Bowling fence is 38.4m x 6ft high and the men’s bowling fence is 40.2m x 6ft. The men’s fence has gaps of 1.5inches between each panel.
If you are interested in applying to be the lead artist on the project please send your proposal to donna_harding@redcar-cleveland.gov.uk covering the following criteria:
Deadline for applications is Tuesday 25th May 2010.
- The theme for the project is “where we live” and “the seaside”. How would you incorporate this in to the project?
- We are hoping to work with children and young people from four schools – two primaries and two secondary – please state how many young people you suggest we work with from each school. We would like to work with children in year 6 and year 8 or year 9.
- How many workshops would be needed with each group to produce the design? Please can you include dates that you would be available to deliver the project?
- How would you bring together all of the ideas into a final piece? We imagined that the fence would be broken down in to four sections, one for each school but we are open to other suggestions!
- What materials would you need and what would you use for the actual decorating of the fence? Would the artwork go direct on to the fence panels or be done on separate boards?
- How long will the final artwork take and how will this be programmed with the schools? Will the young people be involved in the final piece?
- The fence needs to be weatherproof and long lasting.
- Please include a budget for all of the work including artist fees and materials.
- Please include your CRB number on your application along with the issue date
If you would like to send examples of previous work you have done please ensure files are small or send them in the post to:
